I almost had to take my gf to the ER last night because my big dog took a running leap and slammed his head into hers as she was bending down to put a leash on our other dog. The noise was like two coconuts knocking together. She almost lost consciousness but didn't want to go to the ER because of the embarassment of having to tell triage what had happened to her. This morning my gf had an egg shaped knot and a bruise on her forehead. I seriously think my dog is autistic or something.

Does she have a concushen (sp?)

I doubt it she denied having any nausea or dizziness (annoyed her by asking about it). Her behavior was normal afterwards, except for the fact that she was strangely not irritated with the dog. I know it was random, but I only top posted about it because I was sick of seeing the "bored" post at the top of the page. I almost posted in the Petfo about my dog today because I am at the end of my rope with him, but I know from past experience that those folks can be scary.

nothing an exorcism wouldn't fix We've been dealing with his issues for years, and I've posted about it in this forum and even in petfo. He's had every kind of training and class, and what it really boils down to is that he is a sonofabitch pain in the ass personality, who can only be managed but not fixed. He is extremely dominant, very pushy, completely oblivious to most forms of correction, and has no almost no interest in us outside of what we can provide him in the way of food, sleeping comfort, or amusements. On the plus side--he is extremely handsome!

is he a terrier of some sort? That description reminds me of a Schnauzer of my childhood past.

I don't have a pic to post but he looks like a cross between a Great Dane and a lab. If he has any terrier in him, it's probably pit bull terrier, but he lacks that solid affectionate pittie personality.

I could totally see a pittie launching himself into a loved one's forehead and not being any worse for wear though :) A lab gave me a good whack in the nose though - they can be quite excitable. She was a guide dog too and she totally took me by surprise. OW.

He's almost x but he was five or six when these pics were taken. In these pics he weighs about x pounds, but we've since taken x pounds off of him per vet's instructions to protect his hips.

Good looking pup! I just read Cesar's Way, Some of it didn't seem right to me but overall he had some good tips for dealing with dominant personalities in dogs. He is very big on walking the dogs until they are bone tired and establishing dominance over them. I had to do that once with a Scottie (she was attacking the other dogs) It totally worked. It hurt my feelings because I felt like I was being mean to her but afterwards she relaxed and never attacked the other dogs again.

oh yeah, he loves his walks! and they are very exciting for me, too. He will heel like a charm and then, out of the blue, lunge at old ladies, blind people, folks using wheelchairs and anyone who seems a little crazy or intoxicated (we live right off Telegraph in Berkeley, so this is fun). He has to act like he wants to kill every other dog we meet on the sidewalk (or across the street or in a window or in a passing car). He will yank my arm right out of the socket if he sees a cat or squirrel before I do. He will scarf down anything from the sidewalk that even remotely resembles food (I once had to extricate an entire stale x inch french baguette from his esphagous). Sadly, I will always tire of a walk before he does. (I considered sending Cesar Milan a tape of Maynard's behavior, but my girlfriend said it would be way too embarassing.)

I really want to and Maynard is so telegenic and dramatic, but my gf absolutely would not stand to be on tv.

my gf's dog is an ex-stray shepherd mix and I've discovered you can take the dog off the street, but you can't take the street out of the dog. She will eat ANYTHING she finds on our walks. She doesn't do this with my partner (as much) but when she and I go out alone she can't pass up a bit of gutter donut, a snack of cat doo, or some... (insert the revolting item). Good exercise for my arm.

ha! Mine, too! Eats anything he can find on the ground. When I lived in NH on a farm, that meant he ate apples and pears. When I moved to Brighton he regularly found whole pizza slices or burritos in the street. Ah, the city.

Yup I always had to block him from the cat-box. How GROSS.
