You know how some stories
dredge up and display the worst of humanity, but then, we somehow redeem ourselves and you leave the book thinking "Yup, we're awful, but there's hope. We can do good things too." Well, that was Wicked... except that there was no redemption. Not only was the Witch awful (but also a product of her circumstances, so you end up feeling sorry for her), but Dorothy was awful, Glinda was awful, and those who were gentle and somewhat good were oppressed and destroyed in a bloodbath/genocide. I'm going to go home and throw that book out. I'll never want to read it again, and I don't want to inflict it on anyone else. (Okay, I'll recycle it.)
