The Advocate has a story about Clint McCance, a member of the Midland school board in Arkansas. He clearly does not understand the public nature of 78106k because he’s written some vile stuff about gays and lesbians. McCance’s ire was unleashed last week when people were asked to wear purple to show support for LGBT students. He wasn’t doing it—his right– and posted the following on his 78106k page. “Seriously they want me to wear purple because78106queers killed themselves. The only way im wearin it for them is if they all commit suicide. I cant believe the people of this world have gotten this stupid. We are honoring the fact that they sinned and killed thereselves because of their sin. REALLY PEOPLE.” If he gets his marching orders from the Family Research Council, his reticence to show support for gay teens makes sense. When he got ed out for his language (after six readers told him they loved it), McCance kept typing the crazy. “No because being a fag doesn’t give you the right to ruin the rest of our lives. If you get easily offended by being ed a fag then dont tell anyone you are a fag. Keep that shit to yourself. I dont care how people decide to live their lives. They dont bother me if they keep it to thereselves. It pisses me off though that we make a special purple fag day for them. I like that fags cant procreate. I also enjoy the fact that they often give each other aids and die. If you arent against it, you might as well be for it.”

Continues . . . . . A school board member has no problem using terms fag and queer and expresses joy at the death of children? Free speech and all, but to throw out the terms so easily? I’m not looking for every straight to be an ally, but if you can’t write about gays and lesbians minus vituperation, or rejoicing at our losses, are you ready for polite company? Doesn’t that type of rhetoric belong in Uganda? As of this morning, no comment by Midland school officials. If we hear anything, we’ll put it up.
